Ich habe es völlig versäumt meine Reisedaten mal bekannt zu geben - das soll sich jetzt ändern.
Also: Der Plan ist das ich am 25. Mai mit dem Rad nach Amsterdam gondel, dort bei Freunden übernachte und am 27 Mai Nachmittags die Nachtfähre nach Newcastle besteige. Die nette Frau an der Hotline von DFDS-Seaways hat mit auf meine Frage, wie ich denn am schlausten mit meinem Drahtesel aufs Schiff komme gesagt, ich solle mich einfach so verhalten wie ein Auto, dann würde alles gut klappen. - Im Moment überlege ich mir noch den Autotyp den ich simulieren werde ;-)
Das Schiff wird mich am Morgens des 28. Mai in Newcastle an Land setzen und mich den Unwägbarkeiten des Linksverkehrs überlassen - um die Stadtgrenze zu erreichen muss ich mindestens 30 Kreisel, davon mehrere mehrspurige überwinden. Ich hoffe stark, das ich meinen Urlaub nicht unvermutet im Kreiselkrankenhaus von Newcastle verbringen muss sondern kurze Zeit später dem Nordseeküsten-Radwanderweg nach Norden gen Schottland folgen kann.
Ich habe hier mal eine Übersichtskarte mit dem Kurs eingefügt. Ich rechne damit das meine Reise in Thurso enden wird. von dort werde ich mit meinem Rad den Zug zurück nach Newcastle nehmen um dort am 26. Juni die Fähre zurück nach Amsterdam zu nehmen. Schliesslich wollen mich meine netten Kollegen ja am 28. Juni wieder am Arbeitsplatz begrüßen können - wahrscheinlich muss ich dann erst mal neu eingearbeitet werden...
Der offizielle Kurs nimmt an ein paar Stellen Abkürzungen und lässt dadurch Küstenabschnitte aus. Ich muss bis zur Reise herausfinden was es damit auf sich hat und ob es nicht reizvoller ist wenn ich an den Stellen nicht stattdessen die grün eingezeichneten Routen fahre.

So far I totally missed to tell about my travel data - it's time to change this.
Okay: the plan is that I will leave my home at Dortmund at the 25th of may towards Amsterdam where I will stay for a night with friends. On the 27th of may in the afternoon I will enter the night-ferry to Newcastle. The kind woman on the hotline of DFDS-Seaways answered my question about the best way to enter the ferry with my bicycle with 'just behave as if you are a car - that should do the trick'. Actually I am thinking about which kind of car I should simulate ;-)
The ship should set me on land on the morning of 28th of may in Newcastle and deliver me to the imponderability of left handed traffic - I need to pass minimum 30 roundabouts several of them with multiple tracks to reach the city border. I hope a lot that I won't spend my stay in the local (roundabout-)hospital of Newcastle but will reach the north-sea-cycle-route shortly after my arrival to follow it towards the north to Scotland.

I added a map with the official route presuming that my journey will end in Thurso, from where I will return to Newcastle via train to reach the ferry to Amsterdam on the 26th of june. My colleagues suppose me to be back at my work on 28th of June - I think that I totally need to learn the ropes by then...
The official route takes some shortcuts and leaves out some coastal areas. I need to find out about the reason for this and if it might be more attractive to ride on the green marked ways.
